Ecological impact assessment (EcIA) is a process of identifying, quantifying and evaluating potential effects of development on habitats, species and ecosystems. This webinar will describe the basics of the EcIA process, specifically in the context of development plans and project with a potential to generate air quality impacts. The webinar will also explore the relationship between the EcIA process and other related assessment processes, such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA), and will provide the general background to carry out a simple (screening) assessment. The webinar will explore the different approaches required for European-designated sites as well as sites of national and local importance. Note that due to time constraints, this webinar will not cover the detailed concepts required to carry out a full HRA study, but will refer to other sources that can be consulted for further reading.
