The purpose of this module is to provide the framework for good permit construction. The module will consist of a review of the parts of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations that are relevant to permitting, an examination of the determination of BAT for permits, a review of guidance and a detailed examination of a specific PG guidance note. There will also be an opportunity to work together in break out groups to re-write permit conditions from a case study provided that will culminate in the production of a workable and enforceable permit conditions by the group. The worked examples will be reviewed and procedures for transfer, variation and the enforcement of permits will be considered. On completion of the seminar attendees will understand: • The legislation & guidance affecting the preparation and issue of permits • How to accept & process a permit application • What is involved in duly making & determining a permit application • Evaluation of installation • Construction of permit conditions • Suggested layout of a permit document
