This module reviews the use and construction of noise models, identifies common features in modelling and provides some guidance on evaluation of inputs and output requirements. It also looks at how models can be used to predict impacts, the inevitable requirement for (and performance of) mitigation. The module looks at common mitigation measures used for various types of noise and focuses on how mitigation measures can be specified to deal with them. Finally a case study will be provided that allows delegates to review data obtained/supplied, and then identify possible mitigation measures in a trainer led exercise. In summary the module will cover • Basics of modelling • Constructing a model • Reviewing models • Models and compliance • Basics of mitigation • Source to receptor path and sound diffraction • Case studies This module is of use to anyone who is responsible for preparation or review of noise models and/or interested in proper specification of noise mitigation measures to address noise concerns arising from reports. It will also provide some rules of thumb for evaluation of noise mitigation measures.
