This webinar will provide participants with an overview of the range of remediation technologies used in the UK to demonstrably break source-pathway-receptor linkages. Participants will also practice using the conceptual model (as introduced in the Essentials of CLM I) to inform remediation options appraisal and will gain awareness of the key strategies in verifying remediation has achieved its objectives. Finally, the interaction between remediation and brownfield redevelopment will be outlined. This course will • introduce the approximately 30 generic pre-treatment, treatment and post treatment technologies available to contaminated land managers seeking to identify technically robust and sustainable remediation strategies; • describe the main waste legislation with respect to land contamination issues; • introduce the options appraisal process for the selection of effective risk management measures; and • consider other related issues that may need to be addressed during the redevelopment of brownfield land. The webinar stands alone but can be also undertaken as the fourth module of the EMAQ ‘Essentials of CLM’ course. The ‘Essentials of CLM’ training package, which is endorsed by the CIEH, is designed around the framework DEFRA proposed as part of the outcome of their research project on skills in contaminated land management (SP 1003).
